PRODUCT DESIGNER
LUSINE GRIGORYAN
LEARN ABOUT ME
Hello, I'm Lusine, a product designer who's all about creating awesome user experiences. I bring together functionality, aesthetics, and user-centric design to turn ideas into innovative products that hit the mark with business goals.

THE SOLE PRODUCT DESIGNER'S STORY
I started my career as a sole product designer at Wirestock in 2019 and worked there for four years and seven months. It has been an incredible journey, marking my first professional experience in this field.
As Wirestock's sole product designer, I oversaw the design process for a range of products, including the main website, mobile app, and admin tools. From start to finish, I took charge of managing and executing the design tasks.
My team and I completed two product redesigns, improving user experience and visual design. We added new features to enhance user satisfaction, aiming for a seamless and enjoyable experience.
We created a mobile app for iOS and Android that allowed users to easily upload content to selling platforms. The app included a user-friendly dashboard for tracking sales.

TEAMWORK
I collaborated closely with the product manager, data analysts, customer support, and developers to gain a deep understanding of our users' problems and needs. Through user interviews, email surveys, and valuable insights from the data analysts and customer support team, we identified the pain points and challenges faced by our users. These collaborative efforts enabled us to engage in meaningful discussions and find effective solutions that aligned with user feedback.
In my role, collaborating with the development team was crucial. We regularly discussed and explored new design ideas, aiming to streamline the process for developers. Open communication and a strong partnership allowed us to create visually appealing, practical, and easily implementable designs.

PROBLEM DISCOVERY
Through close collaboration with customer support and conducting user interviews, we identified a common issue among users. Many of them were uncertain about the concept of property or model permissions and lacked understanding of when and why they should obtain permission from the property or model owner before selling the content. Some users mistakenly believed that capturing a photo automatically granted them ownership rights.

UX CASE
STUDY 1
SUCCESS STORY EXAMPLE
In stock photo industry, obtaining permissions for properties and models depicted in images is essential before selling them. Without the necessary permissions, the images will be rejected for sale. It's important for creators to have the required documentation to demonstrate their authorization, protecting the rights and privacy of individuals involved.

1
To enhance the user experience, we introduced an icon that appeared when our model detected the presence of people in an image, providing clear visual indicators.
2
We prompted users with the question, "Are there visible people in this image?" to ensure they were aware of the requirement to obtain proper permissions.
3
If users did not attach the necessary permissions after posting the image, we followed up with a reminder regarding visible people in the image, encouraging them to address this requirement.

THE RESULT
Through conducting usability testing and closely analyzing the data with our team of data analysts, we observed a significant 40% increase in successful permission creations. This positive outcome demonstrated the effectiveness of our efforts in improving user understanding and ensuring that users attached the necessary permissions to their creations. By leveraging user feedback and data-driven insights, we were able to implement changes that positively impacted user behavior and compliance with permissions guidelines.

UX CASE
STUDY 2

Through conducting research on the behavior of our new sign-up users, we discovered that 30% of them did not become active. They signed up for our service but did not proceed to upload any media or engage with the platform further. This finding raised concerns about the effectiveness of our onboarding process and highlighted the need for improvements to enhance user activation and engagement.
PROBLEM DISCOVERY
By conducting interviews with inactive users and evaluating our past onboarding process, we identified a problem: our onboarding process lacked the ability to effectively motivate users to upload media. The previous process primarily focused on providing information, but it failed to create a sense of urgency or incentivize users to take action and contribute their content to the platform. As a result, there was a noticeable lack of user engagement and participation in terms of media uploads.
SUCCESS STORY EXAMPLE
THE SOLUTION
To address the identified problem, we added new functionality to our onboarding process. This functionality specifically promoted and encouraged users to upload media. We incorporated a clear call-to-action and incentive within the onboarding flow to prompt users to start building their portfolio.

1
We added an upload media function to our onboarding process, which specifically called users to upload their media. This new feature prompted and encouraged users to actively contribute their content to the platform.
2
We implemented a new incentive program in our onboarding process. As part of this program, we offered users a $5 bonus if they successfully had their first 25 images or videos approved. This bonus served as a motivating factor for users to actively upload their media and strive for approval.

THE RESULT
Through a comprehensive data analysis conducted by our data team, we made a significant observation. After implementing changes to our onboarding process, we witnessed a significant and noteworthy decrease in the number of inactive users, with the percentage dropping down to 15%. This is indicative of a significant improvement in user engagement and participation on our platform.

THE POWER OF THE DESIGN PROCESS
The design process is a methodical and iterative approach that empowers designers to develop innovative and effective solutions. It comprises a series of sequential steps that designers follow to comprehend, ideate, and craft visually captivating and user-centered designs. This process is instrumental in transforming abstract ideas into tangible and impactful creations.

DELIVERY
Ensure quality assurance by testing the functionality and usability of the product across different devices and browsers. Incorporate feedback from testing to iterate and improve the design as needed.

DESIGN
Develop a design system that provides consistent guidelines for typography, colors, icons, and UI components. Design visually appealing and user-friendly interfaces that align with the established design system. Craft clear and compelling copy for UI elements to enhance the overall user experience.

DISCOVERY
In the discovery phase, conduct user research to gain insights into user needs and behaviors through interviews, surveys, and usability tests. Use this information to create personas and journey maps that outline the desired user experience.

DESIGN
PROCESS

THE STORY
In Wirestock, with the development team, we created a robust design system. The implementation of a design system enabled us to create and replicate designs efficiently and at scale. This alleviated the strain on design resources, allowing us to focus on tackling more complex challenges. The design system also established a unified language within our cross-functional teams, promoting better communication and collaboration. Moreover, it ensured visual consistency across our products, channels, and different departments that may have been siloed.
Given the vastness of our design system, I would like to introduce two integral components: typography and color. These elements play a pivotal role in shaping the visual appeal and user experience of our products.

THE TYPOGRAPHY
Typography for me is more than conveying information; it's a visual art that unleashes creativity and transforms text into captivating designs.
Typography is a key element in a design system as it is responsible for establishing consistency and coherence. It plays a crucial role in defining the visual identity, enhancing readability, and organizing information effectively. By utilizing variations in font size, weight, and style, typography ensures that the design system maintains a unified and harmonious appearance.

DESIGN
SYSTEM

I chose to utilize the Open Sans font for both body text and titles due to its exceptional readability. Open Sans offered a clean and modern aesthetic that enhanced the legibility of the text, making it easier for users to consume and understand.

For titles, I specifically selected the Sharp Grotesk Medium 23 font. This font choice was made to bring a distinctive and impactful visual style to the titles and was in harmony with our illustrations. The Sharp Grotesk Medium 23 font featured a bold and sharp appearance, with a slightly larger size that commanded attention and added emphasis to the titles.

THE COLORS
Colors are crucial in a design system. They convey meaning, evoke emotions, and create a consistent experience. Carefully selecting and defining colors provides harmony and balance. They are used for backgrounds, text, accents, and more, ensuring brand consistency, readability, attention guidance, and enhancing the user experience.

THE PRIMARY COLORS
Our brand's primary colors are black (#000000) and blue (#4776E6), and I use these colors in various design elements, including call-to-action buttons, typography, and backgrounds. Black represents elegance and strength, while blue symbolizes trust and reliability. By incorporating these colors thoughtfully, we create a visual identity that effectively communicates our brand values.
